Step Ball

Step Ball

[30 Minutes]

Here is a game that can be played anywhere you can find steps. The object of this game is to score points by bouncing the ball off of a step and successfully catching it.

You'll need:

• small rubber ball or tennis ball • steps • paper and pencil to keep score

What to do:

  1. If possible, print out these directions. Read them together before you begin.
  2. Together, gather everything you’ll need.

How to play:

  1. The first player stands at least 3-4 feet from the stairs and pitches the ball at the steps trying to bounce it back and catch it.
  2. If the ball hits both a step and a riser and the player succeeds in catching the bounce--he gets 5 points.
  3. Balls that are caught after bouncing directly off the point of the step are worth 10 points.
  4. A point is deducted from the player's score if he misses a catch or doesn't perform the throw properly.
  5. Take turns pitching the ball.
  6. Keep score and see who can reach 100 points first.

Useful information:

I live in New York City and we don't have a lot of space to play. My dad and I play this game even at night. It is certainly more challenging with only a street light. (Bob, age 11)
