Time Yourself Getting Ready to Go!

Time Yourself Getting Ready to Go!

[20 Minutes]

Does your child tend to dawdle? Here is a fun way to help your child get ready on time?

You'll need:

• clock or timer

What to do:

  1. Encourage your child to set the timer or to notice the time on the clock.
  2. Time him on a day when he's getting ready at his normal pace.
  3. Note the length of time it normally takes him to do his morning routine, to get ready for bed, or to do whatever routine he wants to do more quickly.
  4. Challenge your child to try to move more quickly, and time him to see how long it takes.
  5. Help him keep a simple chart to record the time.
  6. Show him how to challenge himself by setting a timer slightly faster than the time it took him the day before. Can he beat the clock?

Let's Talk: Ideas to Explore Together.

  • What did you do to improve your time? What shortcuts did you take?
  • How much time have you saved each day? How could you spend all that extra time you have saved?

Useful information:

While you are having fun together, this activity provides experiences for developing concepts related to time and math.
