Time Yourself Getting Ready to Go!
[20 Minutes]
Does your child tend to dawdle? Here is a fun way to help your child get ready on time?
You'll need:
clock or timer
What to do:
- Encourage your child to set the timer or to notice the time on the clock.
- Time him on a day when he's getting ready at his normal pace.
- Note the length of time it normally takes him to do his morning routine, to get ready for bed, or to do whatever routine he wants to do more quickly.
- Challenge your child to try to move more quickly, and time him to see how long it takes.
- Help him keep a simple chart to record the time.
- Show him how to challenge himself by setting a timer slightly faster than the time it took him the day before. Can he beat the clock?
Let's Talk: Ideas to Explore Together.
- What did you do to improve your time? What shortcuts did you take?
- How much time have you saved each day? How could you spend all that extra time you have saved?
Useful information:
While you are having fun together, this activity provides experiences for developing concepts related to time and math.
