A Rock Walk
[20 Minutes]
Enjoy the fresh air and take a "rock walk" with your child. The rocks you find could be the beginning of a collection!
You'll need:
basket or container
What to do:
- Invite your child to go on a "rock walk" with you.
- Challenge him to look for rocks that are not too heavy, but that he likes for one reason or another.
- Encourage him to tell what he likes about each--the shape, color, feel, and so on--as he puts it in his basket or container.
- At home, challenge him to sort the rocks from largest to smallest, to weigh them, and to decorate them for use as pet rocks or door stops.
Let's Talk: Ideas to Explore Together.
- How many rocks did you find?
- How are the rocks alike? Different?
- Which rock is your favorite one? Why?
