Kitchen Gadget Guessing Game

Kitchen Gadget Guessing Game

[15 Minutes]

Dinner's cooking. Play this guessing game while you wait.

You'll need:

• assorted kitchen utensils and gadgets, such as funnels, tongs, masher, or ladle • paper bag

What to do:

  1. Together, gather a number of kitchen gadgets safe enough for your child to handle.
  2. Look at and talk about each one. Show your child how they are used, if possible.
  3. Line up 5 or 6 items in a row.
  4. Ask your child to close her eyes as you remove one item.
  5. Challenge her to guess which one is missing.
  6. For a variation, place one item in a paper bag. Encourage your child to feel inside and try to guess what it is.
  7. Let your child place an object in the bag for you to guess.
  8. The next time you are in the supermarket, look for the display of kitchen utensils and gadgets together and see how many you have at home.

Let's Talk: Ideas to Explore Together.

  • Which of these utensils do you think we use the most often?
  • Which are used for cooking breakfast? Lunch? Dinner?
  • Which one do you think is the most fun to use? Why?

Useful information:

While you are having fun together, this activity helps your child develop language skills and important thinking skills.
