Egg Carton Count Game

Egg Carton Count Game

[20 Minutes]

Playing this simple egg carton game teaches your child about numbers as well as turn-taking. It's quick and easy to grab if you want to play a five-minute game before bedtime.

You'll need:

• egg cartons, one for each player • dried beans, or other small items like plastic beads • die

What to do:

  1. Ask your child to distribute one egg carton to each player.
  2. Place a pile of dried beans by each player.
  3. The first player rolls the die and counts how many dots there are. Then he places that many beans in his egg carton, one in each section.
  4. The next player rolls the die and proceeds to play in the same way.
  5. The winner will be the person who fills his egg carton first.

Let's Talk: Ideas to Explore Together.

  • As you play, ask how many sections are filled? How many more do you need?
  • Do you have a favorite number? What is it?

Useful information:

While you are playing this game together, your child is developing small muscle skills, eye/hand coordination and math skills.
