Cereal Box Puzzles
[15 Minutes]
Don't throw away that cereal box--turn it into a learning-packed puzzle!
You'll need:
empty cereal boxes
scissors
used manila envelopes for storage
What to do:
- Cut out the front of a cereal box.
- Together with your child, decide how many pieces the puzzle will have and draw lines on the back of picture. (A good number is six to eight pieces.)
- Cut the pieces and help your child put the puzzle together again.
- Once she is able to complete one puzzle easily, you may want to create more puzzles using other cereal boxes.
- Try mixing up the pieces of two or three puzzles, then challenge your child to sort the pieces and assemble each puzzle by herself.
Let's Talk: Ideas to Explore Together.
- What do you see on the front of the cereal box?
- Can you think of all the different cereals you have tried? Which one tasted the best to you?
Useful information:
While you are having fun together, this activity helps your child develop small muscle skills, sorting skills, and an understanding of parts and whole.
