Halloween Shape Sandwiches

Halloween Shape Sandwiches

[20 Minutes]

Invite the little "ghosts" and "goblins" in your house to make and eat some special Halloween sandwiches for lunch.

You'll need:

• egg salad, tuna salad, peanut butter, jelly, and luncheon meats • cheese slices • bread • pumpkin, jack-o-lantern, ghost, witch, or cat cookie cutters

What to do:

  1. Show your child how to make fancy-shaped sandwiches with familiar fillings. First, prepare a filling: egg salad, tuna salad, peanut butter and jelly, or luncheon meats and cheese.
  2. Help her to use Halloween theme cookie cutters to cut slices of white or whole wheat breads. The cutters can also cut the luncheon meats and slices of cheese.
  3. Fill the breads and cover with another shaped slice.
  4. Put the sandwiches on a plate and talk about each Halloween shape.
  5. Enjoy a pleasant mealtime, chatting as you eat.

Let's Talk: Ideas to Explore Together.

  • Tell me about the shape sandwiches you made with the cookie cutters.
  • Who would you like to invite to lunch? What shape sandwiches would you like to serve to your guest?

Useful information:

While you are having fun together, your child is developing small muscle skills, eye/hand coordination and language skills.
