Edible Circles
[15 Minutes]
For a nutritious snack and a lesson on shapes, help your child make edible circles in the kitchen!
You'll need:
sliced carrots, cucumbers and zucchini
round crackers
cream cheese and/or peanut butter
plastic knife
What to do:
- Place sliced carrots, cucumbers and zucchini (round slices) on a plate in front of your child. Include round crackers too.
- Help him spread cream cheese or peanut butter onto the sliced food with a plastic knife.
- Sing a fun song as you prepare these edible snacks together. (Tune: "Mary Had A Little Lamb"):
See the carrot, orange and round, Orange and round, Orange and round. See the carrot, orange and round. Sliced upon my plate.
- Make up other verses according to the foods served, such as: see the cucumber, green and round; see the zucchini, green and round; see the crackers, round and round...served upon my plate.
- Talk about the circle shape of the vegetable rounds and crackers. Enjoy this snack together and praise your child for his help in the kitchen.
Let's Talk: Ideas to Explore Together.
- How many circle foods do you have? Let's count them.
- What colors are these foods?
- What did you spread on the vegetables and crackers? Do they taste "yummy"?
Useful information:
While you are having fun together, your child is developing language skills, small muscle skills, and an understanding of shapes.
