Ball Bounce Count

Ball Bounce Count

[15 Minutes]

An activity as simple as bouncing balls is a fun way for you and your child to count and play at the same time.

You'll need:

• a variety of balls

What to do:

  1. Bounce a ball as you sing the following song with your child (Tune: "Here We Go 'Round the Mulberry Bush"):
    This is the way we bounce the ball,
    Bounce the ball, bounce the ball;
    This is the way we bounce the ball,
    As we sing and play.
  2. Then invite your child to bounce the ball and help her count the bounces.
  3. Select different-sized balls to bounce and talk to her about the differences in action.
  4. Bounce the ball back and forth to each other as a game.

Let's Talk: Ideas to Explore Together.

  • How many times can you bounce the ball? Let's count together.
  • Which ball would you like to bounce? Do they bounce differently?

Useful information:

While you are having fun together, your child is developing balance, language skills, and an understanding of "same and different."
