Musical Glasses

Musical Glasses

[15 Minutes]

When your child experiments with sounds, music can happen. Enjoy this experience together!

You'll need:

• glass • spoon • liquid (lemonade or any fruit juice)

What to do:

  1. While sharing a glass of lemonade or juice, invite your child to tap the edge of the glass with a spoon to listen to the sound it makes.
  2. Put different amounts of liquid in the glass to compare the sounds. Help her discover that adding more liquid produces a lower sound and that after she has had some juice (removing the liquid) a higher sound is made.
  3. Ask your child to hum the sound with you. Together you can make up a song to sing using the musical glasses.
  4. Enjoy the lemonade with a snack.

Let's Talk: Ideas to Explore Together.

  • Can you make sounds with your glass of juice? How?
  • Did you make up a new song? Hum it to me.

Useful information:

While you are having fun together, this activity helps your child develop listening skills and an understanding of "same and different".
