Pot O' Gold

Pot O' Gold

[30 Minutes]

Must that Pot of Gold be filled with cash? Here is an opportunity for you to talk with your child about what matters to both of you. And then practice your questioning skills as you enjoy hunting for your gold nuggets!

You'll need:

• paper • pencil • scissors • crayons

What to do:

  1. If possible, print out these directions. Read them through together before you begin.
  2. Together, gather everything you'll need.
  3. With your child spend some time talking about the “gold nuggets” you both would like to find at the end of the rainbow. Perhaps it is a new friend, help with homework or the dishes, a kind word, a trip to the movies or a movie rental, peace, time together. Explore all the possibilities.
  4. Let your child cut 6 “gold nuggets” from the paper.
  5. Ask your child to choose three of the gold nuggets, and you choose three too.
  6. Together with your child write one “gold nugget” wish on each piece of paper.
  7. Together with your child color the “gold nuggets” yellow.
  8. Ask your child to hide three “gold nuggets” within a designated area, you hide three also.

How to play:

  1. Let your child toss a coin to determine who will go first.
  2. Player 1 gets to ask 5 yes or no questions to assist him in finding a nugget.
  3. Player 2 then does the same.
  4. Play continues until one player has discovered all three of his opponents nuggets.
  5. You may wish to talk together about how you can make your "gold nugget" wishes come true.

Useful information:

We have had lots of storms this winter and have had to stay indoors alot. My mom and I played this game and them got my brothers involved too. We had lots of laughs about our "gold nugget" wishes. Now it is time to work to make them come true. (Isabelle, age 11)
