Blow Ping Pong

Blow Ping Pong

[20 Minutes]

Enjoy this non-traditional game of ping pong. The object is to be the first player to score 21 points. Playing this game provides experiences for developing balance and endurance. Be careful and don't hyperventilate!

You'll need:

• ping pong ball • masking tape

What to do:

  1. If possible, print out these directions. Read them through together before you begin.
  2. Together decide where the game will be played. The playing area should be a rectangle at least 3 feet by 5 feet. This area can be on a table or the floor.
  3. Establish a centerline and 2 out-of-bounds lines on each side of the playing area. There should also be a line on each side of the centerline that is halfway between the centerline and each player’s starting line. This line is called the body boundary line.
  4. Use the masking tape to mark these lines.

How to play:

  1. The object of the game is to score points by blowing the ping pong ball over the centerline and out of bounds before the opposing player returns the ball over the centerline.
  2. Both of you kneel on your knees with your hands behind your backs on opposite sides of the centerline.
  3. The first player puts his ping pong ball on his starting line and starts to blow. He cannot move his body over the body boundary line.
  4. A point is scored when the ball goes over the centerline to the opposing player and goes out of bounds.
  5. The player who first to reaches 21 points wins!

Useful information:

This game is trickier than it looks! My mom and I played this game the other day. It was really hard not too laugh and it was really challenging to keep my balance. Now that I have some practice, I am going to challenge my older brother to this game. (Malcolm, age 11)
