Touch and Feel Game

Touch and Feel Game

[25 Minutes]

Your child will explore the sense of touch with this fun game!

You'll need:

• a collection of familiar objects • pillowcase

What to do:

  1. Talk about the sense of touch. Invite your child to feel the floor, carpet, clothes, hair, skin, etc. Ask, "Which feels soft? Hard? Bumpy? Encourage her to use words to describe the way things feel.
  2. Fill a pillowcase with familiar objects. Explain that our hands can tell us about something even when we are not looking at the object.
  3. Invite your child to reach inside the bag (with her eyes closed) and feel one of the objects.
  4. Ask, "What do you think you are feeling?" "How does it feel to your fingers?"
  5. After she has guessed what the object is, invite her to remove it from the bag and view the item.
  6. Continue playing until all the objects have been touched and named.

Let's Talk: Ideas to Explore Together.

  • Let's talk about our senses. What do we do with our eyes? Our ears? Our mouth? Our fingers? Our nose?
  • Can you think of a new way to play this game? Could we put the items in something other than a pillowcase?
