Beach Obstacle Course
[25 Minutes]
Create a mini-obstacle course on the beach that will have your young child jumping, hopping, and tiptoeing. An added bonus may be the attraction of some playmates as children nearby come to watch.
You'll need:
large sandy area stick shovel
What to do:
- Create a mini-obstacle course at the beach with your young child. Use your child's ideas or some of the ones that follow.
- Use a stick or shell to draw two parallel lines about 12-18" apart to make a "river" to jump over.
- Make a long curvy line for your child to tiptoe along.
- Dig a small trench for jumping over and then use the dirt to make a small hill for hurtling over. Add more ideas that your child might have.
- Invite other children playing nearby to join in the fun.
Let's Talk: Ideas to Explore Together.
- Can you balance on one foot? Can you hop on one foot? How far?
- What are some other things you like to do at the beach?
Useful information:
While you are having fun together, your child will be developing large muscle skills and thinking skills.
