Valentine Match-Ups
[20 Minutes]
February is a time of change and also a time when young children can explore feelings, cooperation, and the symbol of Valentine's Day, the heart. Here is a game you can make yourself for this special time of year.
You'll need:
12 matching pairs of Valentine's Day stickers index cards (3 inches x 5 inches) heart-shaped tin or candy box
What to do:
- Let your child help you place one sticker in the center of each of the 12 cards. Then work together to place a matching sticker in the center of the others.
- Place all the cards face up on a table or the floor and ask your child to put the matching pairs together.
- Then teach your child how to shuffle all the cards together.
- This time, place the cards face down and take turns turning two cards at a time over in an attempt to make a match. Whoever makes a match gets to keep those two cards and take another turn.
- Store the game in a heart-shaped tin or box.
Let's Talk: Ideas to Explore Together.
- How many pairs of cards are there? Let's count them together.
- Which card is your favorite?
- Would you like to make more cards to add to our game?
