Dinosaur Bread

Dinosaur Bread

[60 Minutes]

This bread recipe is both nutritious and delicious--a great treat for your young paleontologist.

You'll need:

• frozen bread dough, thawed • egg yolk • 1 raisin • water • food coloring • non-stick cooking spray • clean paintbrush for adding glaze • muffin tin • cookie sheet

What to do:

  1. Give your child a large ball of thawed dough and show him how to shape it into many small balls.
  2. Grease a cookie sheet with him and make an outline of a large dinosaur with your finger.
  3. Invite your child to fill in the outline with the small dough balls.
  4. Help him layer the balls to form the plumpest body parts.
  5. Invite your child to add a raisin for an eye.
  6. Let the dough rise until double, then encourage your child to paint the dough with a glaze of egg yolk mixed with water. (Tip: If you add food coloring to the glaze, the dinosaur will have colored skin!)
  7. Bake at 325 degrees F for 45 to 50 minutes or until golden brown. The dinosaur will be three-dimensional and bumpy.
  8. You could also make large rolls in muffin tins or mix popovers from a mix and call them DINOSAUR EGGS!

Let's Talk: Ideas to Explore Together.

  • Which dinosaur is your favorite? What shape is it?
  • Do you think we could make it out of bread?
  • What color shall we make this dinosaur?
