Egg Carton Counting

Egg Carton Counting

[20 Minutes]

Recognizing numerals and counting objects are math skills that require lots of practice. This game comes right from your kitchen and is ready to play in minutes.

You'll need:

• egg cartons • small items like dried beans, buttons, pennies • marker

What to do:

  1. Write a numeral from 1-12 in each section of the egg carton. You may want to start this game counting from 1-6 and work up according to your child's skill level.
  2. Help her to use the beans or small objects to count out the correct number for each section. Provide assistance as needed.

Let's Talk: Ideas to Explore Together.

  • How high can you count? Let's practice together.
  • What are your favorite items to count? Will they fit inside the egg carton section?

Useful information:

While you are having fun together, this activity helps your child develop small muscle skills, eye/hand coordination, and matching skills.
