Fluffy Egg Nest Treat

Fluffy Egg Nest Treat

[30 Minutes]

The eggs we eat usually are produced by the female chicken or hen. Although eggs are high in cholesterol, they contain many of the vitamins and minerals essential for growth and development. The egg white contains lots of riboflavin and protein, while the egg yolk contains fat, iron, protein, phosphorous, choline, vitamin A, and vitamin D. Eggs should always be refrigerated and it is best if they are stored in their cardboard containers. This prevents the egg from picking up other odors in the refrigerator. Enjoy the versatile egg in this fluffy egg nest treat.

You'll need:

• 2 eggs • 2 slices bread--toasted • electric mixer (ADULT SUPERVISION) • salt • pepper • bowl • paper • watercolors (optional)

What to do:

  1. If possible, print out these directions. Read them through together before you begin.
  2. Together, gather everything you'll need and always remember cooking safety.
  3. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
  4. Help your child separate the eggs and put the whites in a bowl. Leave the yolks in the shell.
  5. Using the electric mixer, help your child beat the egg whites until stiff enough to form peaks.
  6. Help her to heap the egg whites onto the two slices of toast. Make a hollow in the center of both mounds.
  7. Slip the egg yolks into the hollow. Sprinkle with salt and pepper.
  8. Bake at 350 degrees F until meringue whites are browned and the yolk is as you like it.

Useful information:

Sunday breakfast is my favorite meal of the week. My grandma helps me make these fluffy egg nests. The meringue can be a little tricky, but it makes the eggs taste good and look good. We enjoy making these for the whole family. Once in a while we'll make them for supper. (Tiffany, age 10)
