St. Patrick's Day Punch with Gold Pieces

St. Patrick's Day Punch with Gold Pieces

[20 Minutes]

During the 19th century, the color green was recognized as one of the symbols of Ireland and the national color of the Emerald Isle. ”Wearin’ of the green” has become a St. Patrick’s Day tradition and is supposed to bring good luck. To celebrate the holiday, wear some green and enjoy this refreshing green punch.

You'll need:

• 1/2 gallon lime sherbet • 2 quarts 7-up, Sprite, or seltzer • orange juice • empty ice cube trays • hand mixer or egg beater

What to do:

  1. If possible, print out these directions. Read them through together before you begin.
  2. Together, gather everything you'll need and always remember cooking safety.
  3. Let your child pour orange juice into ice cube trays and freeze overnight. (To get coin shape, freeze in paper cup and peel away cup before adding to punch.)
  4. Let the sherbet soften in the refrigerator for about 1 to 2 hours before preparing.
  5. Invite your child to mix sherbet and soda in a punch bowl or large mixing bowl. Use an electric mixer on medium speed until well blended or your child can use an egg beater.
  6. Let him add ice cubes made of orange juice-these are the pieces of gold!
