Cake in a Basket
[30 Minutes]
Try this new way to make and serve a cake! It's especially fun during the spring holidays.
You'll need:
1 cake mix 1 cup shredded coconut jelly beans green food coloring 1 shallow 8-inch or 9-inch round basket with handles or 13 x 9-inch oblong basket empty jar 1 yard ribbon cooling rack baking pan similar in size and shape to the basket measuring cup and spoons aluminum foil plastic wrap prepared white frosting
What to do:
- Together wash your hands before cooking.
- Make the cake by following the directions on the package. Let your child help with mixing the ingredients.
- Don't forget to select a pan that will fit into a basket; otherwise, you may have to cut your cake in half so that it fits.
- Let the cake cool until you can touch it.
- Cover the cake loosely with plastic wrap.
- Put it in the freezer for 1-2 hours.
- Line a basket with aluminum foil.
- Place the frozen cake into the foil-lined basket.
- Invite your child to help you frost the cake.
- To make the grass, put the coconut with a few drops of green food coloring in a covered jar. Encourage your child to shake the container until the coconut turns green.
- Together place this "grass" on top of the frosting.
- Your child can hide the jelly bean "eggs" in the "grass."
- Tie a ribbon on the handle. What a unique way to present this special cake!
