Nature Collage for Me

Nature Collage for Me

[15 Minutes]

Help your child develop her sense of touch as you create a nature collage together.

You'll need:

• clear contact paper • tape • scissors (ADULT USE ONLY) • collected nature finds (leaves, seeds, small flowers, grasses, etc.) • paper bag

What to do:

  1. Take a walk with your child. Help her collect safe things from nature.
  2. When you return home, invite your child to choose small objects that can be used to make a nature collage. Name each item and talk about where it was found.
  3. Cut a large square of clear contact paper and tape it sticky side up to a tabletop.
  4. Encourage your child to randomly place the nature finds on the paper.
  5. She will be fascinated by touching the sticky surface and pressing things onto it.
  6. You can cover the nature collage with another piece of clear contact paper and then display your work of art on a table or wall.

Let's Talk: Ideas to Explore Together.

  • What did you put on the paper? Let's count the leaves. Let's count the twigs.
  • What else would you like to put on the paper?

Useful information:

While you are having fun together, this activity helps your child develop small muscle skills, eye/hand coordination, and language skills.
