Beautiful Sand Fingerpainting

Beautiful Sand Fingerpainting

[20 Minutes]

Add another dimension to fingerpaint to create a new texture experience for your child.

You'll need:

• sand • fingerpaint • paper

What to do:

  1. Sprinkle some sand into fingerpaint.
  2. Let your child smear the sandy paint with his fingers.
  3. Talk to him about the rough texture of the paint.

How to use:

  1. When your child is fingerpainting, encourage him to use different parts of his hands. Just the fingertips can create interesting lines. Invite him to use his knuckles, the heel of his hand, and the side of his hand.
  2. Talk about his creation.
  3. Write down the words he uses to describe his painting.

Let's Talk: Ideas to Explore Together.

  • How does the paint feel? Is it smooth? Is it scratchy?
  • What colors did you use?
  • Can you tell me about your painting?

Useful information:

While you are having fun together, this activity helps your child develop small muscle skills and an understanding of cause and effect.
