PB and J Puzzle Sandwich

PB and J Puzzle Sandwich

[15 Minutes]

Make lunchtime a fun experience. Entice your child with a sandwich cut into puzzle pieces!

You'll need:

• 2 slices of bread • peanut butter • jelly • cookie cutters (optional) • plastic knife (for child) • sharp knife (ADULT USE ONLY) • plate

What to do:

  1. Help your child spread peanut butter on one slice of bread and jelly on the other. Put the bread slices together.
  2. With a sharp knife, cut the sandwich into 2 or 3 puzzle pieces. You can use a cookie cutter shape in the center as a recognizable shape. (The other pieces are cut to fit around this shape.)
  3. Place the pieces randomly on a plate. Encourage your child to fit the puzzle pieces together before eating the sandwich.
  4. As a variation in flavor, try peanut butter and honey or sliced bananas.

Let's Talk: Ideas to Explore Together.

  • Let's make a puzzle with three pieces.
  • Show me three of your fingers.
  • Would you like to make another puzzle with more pieces next time?

Useful information:

While you are having fun together, this activity helps your child develop an understanding of "parts and whole".
