Snowflakes, Snowflakes

Snowflakes, Snowflakes

[30 Minutes]

Snowflakes are so lacy and beautiful. Invite your child to make a snowflake replica with this simple art activity!

You'll need:

• paper or plastic doily • blue construction paper • tape • sponges • white paint • paint container

What to do:

  1. Help your child to place a paper doily or a plastic doily (YARD SALES FIND: plastic covers for dresser tops) over a sheet of blue paper and tape in place.
  2. Invite her to use sponges dipped in white paint to print all over the paper. When the doily is removed, lovely snowflake shapes will appear.
  3. Variation--place a sheet of thin paper over a doily. Encourage your child to make rubbings with crayons on the paper. Together watch the lacy snowflake appear.

Let's Talk: Ideas to Explore Together.

  • What do you think will happen when we paint on top of the doily?
  • How does the paper look when we take off the doily?
  • Where should we put our snowflake pictures?

Useful information:

While you are having fun together, your child is developing small muscle skills and creativity.
