Let it Snow!

Let it Snow!

[30 Minutes]

Share in your child's enjoyment of winter by going out in the snow together! Make it a memorable experience for both of you by stopping to see...whatever!

You'll need:

• winter clothes and boots • camera (OPTIONAL) • sleds or similar snow equipment of your choice

What to do:

  1. Join your child in his enthusiasm to go out in the snow by telling him you want to go take pictures and have fun together!
  2. Look for people doing things they only do in the snow. Challenge him to see how many things he can see (slipping, sledding, falling).
  3. Challenge each other to discover signs of winter.
  4. Take pictures of him doing winter things such as sledding, throwing snowballs, slipping and sliding.
  5. End your winter snow walk with something special, such as hot chocolate or a snuggly story in front of a warm fire.

How to use:

At another time, when you have the developed pictures, sit down with your child and let him try to remember what he did first, second, and so on. Let him make a poster and/or storybook using the pictures and his own words!

Let's Talk: Ideas to Explore Together.

  • What winter things did we see and do today?
  • What was the most fun? What else would you like to do next time?

Useful information:

While you are having fun together, your child is developing large muscle skills, observational skills, and language skills.
