Paper Snowflakes

Paper Snowflakes

[30 Minutes]

Guide your child through the fun process of cutting snowflakes. You'll be doing a traditional activity used around the world!

You'll need:

• white paper • safety scissors • colored construction or tissue paper • glue • string

What to do:

  1. Fold paper squares into quarters and then fold again for a triangle. Show your child how to snip out small wedge-shapes from each edge and unfold to form a snowflake.
  2. Make pretty ornaments by placing colored paper between two white snowflakes.
  3. Glue all the sheets together and place a loop of string inside for a hanger.
  4. Use the snowflakes as you sing this song (Tune: "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star"):
    Snowflakes falling gently down,
    Whirling, twirling all around,
    Slowly falling to the ground,
    Landing softly without a sound.
    Snowflakes falling gently down,
    Whirling, twirling all around.

Let's Talk: Ideas to Explore Together.

  • What did you do to the white paper to make snowflake designs?
  • What else could we make by folding and snipping paper?

Useful information:

While you are having fun together, your child is developing small muscle skills and language skills.
