Humpty Dumpty Egg Salad

Humpty Dumpty Egg Salad

[20 Minutes]

Together with your child construct a delicious egg salad that illustrates a famous nursery rhyme. Your child will enjoy making it, eating it and of course, saying the rhyme.

You'll need:

• 2 slices olive • 1 thin short carrot stick • paprika • 1 piece radish • 1 tomato slice • mayonnaise (to stick features on egg) • 1 hard-boiled egg • paper • crayons or marker

What to do:

  1. Invite your child to chant this famous Mother Goose rhyme with you:
  2. Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall.
Humpty Dumpty had a great fall.
All the king's horses and all the king's men,
    Couldn't put Humpty together again.
  3. Make your hard-boiled egg "fall" into the sink and crack its shell as your child watches.
  4. Together assemble the ingredients as shown.
  5. Challenge your child to draw a picture of his creation on paper with crayons. Encourage him to hang this in the kitchen for the family to admire!

Let's Talk: Ideas to Explore Together.

  • How did you put a face on the egg?
  • What kind of food is Humpty Dumpty in the rhyme? Why couldn't he be put together again?

Useful information:

While you are having fun together, this activity helps your child develop small muscle skills, language skills, and an introduction to food construction.
