Make-Believe Balance Beam
[15 Minutes]
Get fit with your child as you both try to balance on a pretend beam!
You'll need:
long piece of yarn/rope or masking tape
What to do:
- Place the length of yarn or tape down to make a "balance beam".
- Invite your child to walk along it, placing one foot in front of the other.
- Suggest variations, such as walking with one foot on each side of the line, walking backwards, or hopping or jumping along.
- Encourage your child to use the rope or tape to make shapes to walk on.
Let's Talk: Ideas to Explore Together.
- Is it easier to walk with your arms helping you or when they are down at your sides?
- Can you balance better when you are going quickly or slowly? Why do you think that is?
- What shapes can you make with the yarn?
Useful information:
While you are having fun together, this activity provides experiences for developing agility and balance used to play all sports.
