A Poem for My Grandparents
[20 Minutes]
Grandparent's Day is the Sunday after Labor Day. Help your child celebrate these special people with a fun and easy poem.
You'll need:
paper
pencil
construction paper
glue
crayons or markers
What to do:
- Invite your child to create a special poem for her grandparents to celebrate their special day.
- Write the word, grandparents, vertically on a sheet of plain paper.
- Challenge your child to write or dictate a word (or words) that describes or makes her think of her grandparents that starts with each letter on the paper. For example:
G great R red hair A apple lover N noble D dashing P perfect A animal lover R rider of bikes E energetic N new house T tennis player S silly
- You could use any nickname your child has for her grandparents (Pop, Gram, etc.) or make two poems--one for each.
- When the poem is finished, encourage your child to mount it on a larger piece of construction paper and decorate it with markers.
Let's Talk: Ideas to Explore Together.
- What do you like to do with your grandparents?
- What do they like to do on their own?
- What do you like best about your grandparents?
