Painting with Blocks

Painting with Blocks

[20 Minutes]

Give your child a chance to develop self-expression while making prints with blocks!

You'll need:

• blocks (wood or plastic) • tempera paint • shallow container • paper

What to do:

  1. Put a small amount of paint into a shallow container.
  2. Place a sheet of paper in front of your child. Invite him to dip a block into the paint and press it onto the paper.
  3. Encourage your child to make prints randomly on the page. If the block has a raised letter, number or picture on it, the design will transfer to the paper via the paint print.
  4. Talk about what you see in the print and about the colors you used. Name the colors together.

Let's Talk: Ideas to Explore Together.

  • How did you make this design on the paper?
  • Do you like to make things with paint? Why?

Useful information:

While you are having fun together, this activity helps your child develop language skills and an understanding of cause and effect.
