Make a Butterfly Dish

Make a Butterfly Dish

[15 Minutes]

Your child can create a watering hole for butterflies.

You'll need:

• a shallow weatherproof dish • rocks or pebbles • water

What to do:

  1. Discuss with your child the importance of water to all living things.
  2. Invite him to place rocks and pebbles in the shallow dish. When he adds water, the rocks will need to be partially exposed to serve as landings for the butterflies.
  3. Decide together on a location for the butterfly dish so that the new friends can easily be observed and enjoyed.

Let's Talk: Ideas to Explore Together.

  • Would you like to be a butterfly? Why or why not?
  • What do you think butterflies eat?

Useful information:

While you are having fun together, this activity helps your child develop small muscle and observational skills.
