Poems About Summer
[25 Minutes]
Poetry is made different from ordinary language because of poetic meter. Poetic meter is the repetition of the same pattern of beats. Remembering this, go for a walk with your child and explore nature. After returning home, turn this experience into a poetry book.
You'll need:
paper stapler pencil
What to do:
- If possible, print out these directions. Read them through with your child before you begin.
- With your child, gather everything you'll need.
- Together, go for a walk. After your walk, talk about how people learn through their five senses and about how our senses help us explore the outdoors.
- Help your child complete each of the poem starter lines, writing each one on a separate sheet of paper. Invite her to illustrate each line of the poem.
- Encourage her to write "My Poem Book about Summer" on the cover page. Then staple all the pages together.
Poem Starter: On my walk.. I saw... I heard... I smelled... I tasted... I touched...
Let's Talk: Ideas to Explore Together.
- What colors did you see on our walk?
- What are some of your favorite outdoor activities?
