Get Ready, Get Set, Go!

Get Ready, Get Set, Go!

[15 Minutes]

You can introduce your child to the concept of time as you use a clock to complete simple tasks in a timely manner!

You'll need:

• clock (preferably with a second hand) or a kitchen timer

What to do:

  1. Use a clock to encourage your child to complete a simple task like picking up toys, clothes, etc.
  2. Introduce your child to the numbers and hands on the clock. A clock with a second hand works best.
  3. Show him where the clock hand will go in the time alloted for his chore.
  4. After he completes his task, change roles and let him time you. He can time you by looking at the number 1 and saying STOP when the second hand makes a trip back to the 1. Use the number 2 during your play to reinforce his age.

Let's Talk: Ideas to Explore Together.

  • How long did it take you to do a chore? Was it a long time or a short time?
  • Do you like to use a clock when you help me with chores? What else could we do when using a clock?

Useful information:

While you and your child are having fun together, this activity helps develop thinking skills and pre-math skills.
