Big Snowball Roll
[30 Minutes]
This activity requires perfect snowball snow – and when it’s there – get your snow gear on and have fun. This “sport” appeals to kids of all ages – despite the fact that it can be really hard work once your snowball gets big enough. Just pack and roll!
What to do:
- Explain to your child that the object of the game is to roll the biggest snowball possible – perhaps the biggest one you've ever seen!
- With your child, gather everything you'll need.
How to play:
- Pick out an area to start rolling your snowballs.
- Designate where to start rolling and where to end – each of you may want to start at different spots and try to end at the same place. This works great if there’s more than one child. Then you can referee.
- Invite your child to start her snowball – making sure you show her to pack it hard. Initiate the roll – showing her how to get the snow to stick as you maintain a roll-able shape.
- Challenge your child to roll it as big as she can – having her use as much of her space as possible to get some really good exercise.
- Help her if she needs it – this will be a great workout for you too!
Let's Talk: Ideas to Explore Together.
- Is the snowball bigger than you thought? Why?
- How heavy does the snowball feel?
- Do you think we can roll one as big as you? Do you think it will be easy or hard to push?
- What can you make out of big snowballs?
