A Game of Memory

A Game of Memory

[30 Minutes]

Do you think you have a good memory? This is a good way to find out. Playing this game is a little more fun than Blindman’s Bluff, and it is easy to play anywhere, anytime. It will sharpen your observation skills, as you have fun playing with your friends.

You'll need:

• a blindfold • a timer • a paper • a pencil

What to do:

  1. If possible, print out these directions. Read them through with your child before you begin.
  2. With your child, gather everything you need.
  3. Take a walk through a familiar room; observe and try to remember all of the objects in the room.
  4. Determine who will be blindfolded first.
  5. Determine who will be leader first.

How to play:

  1. The leader places the blindfold on the first player.
  2. The leader gently turns this player around a few times, in order to confuse him.
  3. Choosing an object in the room that might be difficult to recall, the leader escorts the player to that object.
  4. Once the object has been reached, start the timer.
  5. The player has unlimited time to guess what the object is, being as specific as possible.
  6. Stop the timer when the player guesses correctly or gives up.
  7. Continue taking turns, scoring times as play progresses.
  8. Everyone should have an equal amount of turns.
  9. The winner is the player with the lowest tally.

Let's Talk: Ideas to Explore Together.

  • How would this game be different if we played in a room entirely unfamiliar to all of us?
  • How would this game be different if we played in a room familiar to only one of us?
  • What would it be like if we did not take the time to visit the room ahead of time, in order to look around and observe the objects?
