The Name Song

The Name Song

[15 Minutes]

Children love to sing songs about themselves and their friends. Enjoy sharing this song with your child.

You'll need:

• paper • pencil

What to do:

  1. Teach your child the following song using his name in the blank (Tune: "Mary Had a Little Lamb"):
______ is going to the park today, park today, park today,
______ is going to the park today
And with his friends he'll play.
  2. Invite your child to tell you the names of his friends and sing the song about each one. Print their names on a piece of paper for your child to see.
  3. Encourage your child to tell you about each of his friends as you sing the song.
  4. Make up new words together for different friends. For example: "Jenna is riding her trike today"; "Max is walking his dog today"; "Tanisha is playing with blocks today", and so on.

Let's Talk: Ideas to Explore Together.

  • Who do you like to play with? Tell me about your friends.
  • Would you like to draw a picture of your friends?
