Spin a Hug
[25 Minutes]
Talking about families and building positive relationships is at the "heart" of this easy-to-make game.
You'll need:
posterboard or cereal box cardboard scissors paper hole puncher paper fastener markers
What to do:
- Begin by drawing a large heart on a piece of posterboard or the back of a cereal box.
- Help your child divide the heart into sections based on the number of family members.
- Help her write each person's name in a section of the heart.
- Make a spinner by cutting a piece of cardboard into an arrow, punching a hole in the center of the shaft, and helping your child fasten it to the center of the heart with a paper fastener.
How to play:
- Take turns spinning the spinner, reading the name of the family member, and giving that person a gentle hug.
- Or, play the game by saying something nice about the person whose name the spinner is pointing to.
Let's Talk: Ideas to Explore Together.
- What are some ways we are nice to each other in our family? What are nice things we do? Say?
- Can you name the people in our family? (Talk about cousins, aunts, uncles, grandparents and where they live.)
Useful information:
While you are having fun together, this activity helps your child develop language skills.
