Outdoor Water Painting

Outdoor Water Painting

[20 Minutes]

Bring dramatic play outside, as you and your child experience the art of house-painting with magical paint--called water!

You'll need:

• a paintbrush or roller • a small bucket or paint pan • water

What to do:

  1. Help your child to fill the bucket with water.
  2. Invite her to help you paint the fence, trees or driveway with water.

How to use:

  1. Demonstrate how to use each of the utensils to paint hard surfaces.
  2. As she is busy at work, talk about her actions. Phrases like, "that's a big brush you are using, I like watching you move it up and down, you are just like a real house painter."
  3. As she is painting, recite this chant together:
    Painting up, painting down,
    Painting all around!

Let's Talk: Ideas to Explore Together.

  • What happens to the painted surface when the sun shines on it?
  • Would you like to be a house painter when you grow up? Why?

Useful information:

While you are having fun together, your child is developing small and large muscle skills and concepts related to science.
