Nature's Paints

Nature's Paints

[30 Minutes]

Your child probably can't even imagine that you could make paint from natural ingredients. This is an opportunity to reconnect to nature.

You'll need:

• choice of teas, beets, red cabbage, carrots, berries and fruit skins such as plums or purple grapes • water • plastic knives • saucepan • paintbrushes • paper • brushes

What to do:

  1. Help your child chop each ingredient and place separately in a saucepan.
  2. Simmer the material until the color comes out.
  3. Cool and use the colored liquid with brushes.

How to play:

  1. Look together at the fruits and vegetables chosen.
  2. Compare and contrast their sizes, weights, colors and seeds. These natural paints will be less vivid, but produce a very beautiful muted color.

Let's Talk: Ideas to Explore Together.

  • What other fruits and vegetables should we experiment with?
  • What surprised you about the natural paints?

Useful information:

While you are having fun together, this activity helps your child develop small muscle skills and concepts related to science.
