Bird Tune

Bird Tune

[10 Minutes]

Singing is not just for the birds! Sing this song and help your child learn about different feathered friends.

What to do:

  1. Invite your child to join you in making a list of different types of birds. For inspiration, look at your child’s picture books or a child’s wildlife field guide.
  2. Teach your child the following song. (Tune: “Here We Go Round the Mulberry Bush”:
This is how we hatch from eggs,
hatch from eggs, hatch from eggs.
This is how we hatch from eggs.
We peck and peck and peck.

This is how we hop around - We hop and hop and hop.
This is how we hunt for worms - We scratch and scratch and scratch.
This is how we fly away - We flap and flap and flap.
  3. Sing the first verse for your child.
  4. Invite her to act out the words with you.
  5. Sing and act out the rest of the verses together.
  6. Look at your list together. Ask your child to think of lyrics to describe each bird’s actions.
  7. Sing and act out these new ideas together.
