Let's Be Trees

Let's Be Trees

[20 Minutes]

Fall is a wonderful time to observe trees; the air is crisp, and the colorful leaves are falling. Take your child on a walk and enjoy the outdoors!

What to do:

  1. Invite your child to take a walk with you on a crisp fall day.
  2. Stop by a pretty tree, and ask your child to pick up a few leaves off the ground.
  3. Have her stand tall like a tree and sway back and forth (like in the wind) carrying the leaves in her hands. As she sways, she can drop some leaves just like the real trees do in the fall.
  4. After your child has dropped all her leaves, pick them up again and start over.

How to use:

  1. For some extra fun, say this verse together:
  2. Taking a walk is so much fun.
We don' hurry, we don't run.
We watch for squirrels and point to trees.
We look for all the falling leaves.

Let's Talk: Ideas to Explore Together.

  • Can you show me your favorite tree? Are the leaves falling down?
  • Let's pretend to be trees. Let's sway in the breeze. Let's drop our leaves.

Useful information:

While you are having fun together, your child is developing observational skills, large muscle skills, and language skills.
