Apple Sort
[15 Minutes]
The fall season provides us with luscious apples in a variety of colors. Play an apple sorting game with your child and enjoy the crunchy fruit for a snack.
You'll need:
3 apples of each color--green, red, and yellow
3 paper plates OR string or yarn made to form 12"-diameter circles
basket or bowl
What to do:
- Arrange the paper plates in front of your child.
- Show her the bag or basket of apples. Encourage her to talk about the different colors.
- Ask her to count the number of apples of each color.
- Invite her to sort the apples according to color on the paper plates.
- Let her choose an apple and enjoy a snack of fresh fruit.
Let's Talk: Ideas to Explore Together.
- What color were the apples?
- How many of each color did we have?
- What color did you choose to eat? How did it taste? What did it sound like? What did it feel like?
Useful information:
While you are having fun together, this activity helps your child develop sorting skills, matching skills, and an understanding of "same and different".
