My Halloween Treat Bag

My Halloween Treat Bag

[20 Minutes]

Delight your child with a special Halloween treat bag you make together!

You'll need:

• paper grocery bag • crayons or markers • stapler (ADULT USE ONLY) • 12-by-2 inch piece of cardboard • masking tape • reflective tape (optional)

What to do:

  1. Together with your child draw jack-o-lanterns, black cats, witches, and other Halloween figures on the paper bag. Encourage her to help decorate it in her own way.
  2. If the bag doesn't have handles, cut them out as shown in the picture.
  3. Use a 12-by-2 inch piece of cardboard to secure the handle. Staple the handle to opposite sides of the paper handles. Cover the staples with tape.
  4. If your child is going to take the bag trick-or-treating, help her stick on pieces of reflective tape.
  5. As you create this bag together, sing a holiday song. (Tune: "The Farmer in the Dell"):
    It's Halloween tonight,
    It's Halloween tonight,
Let's take our bags and "trick-or-treat,"
    It's Halloween tonight.

Let's Talk: Ideas to Explore Together.

  • Let's make a Halloween treat bag.
  • What would you like to put inside this treat bag?
