Funny People Picture
[15 Minutes]
It's a good thing you've been saving all those old magazines. Isn't it great when you can recycle and create something new and wonderful with your child?
You'll need:
old magazines glue scissors 5 sheets of 8-1/2 x 11-inch paper crayons, pencils, or markers stapler
What to do:
- Go through magazines with your child to find 5 full-length pictures of people (with their heads, bodies, and feet) all approximately the same size. (The more different they are in all other ways, the funnier the book will be.)
- Help your child cut out each picture and then cut it into 3 parts--head, torso, and legs.
- Encourage her to mix and match the body parts to create a "funny" person and glue the parts on one sheet.
- Invite your child to add a background to her picture.
- Encourage her to repeat the process with the other body parts, creating 5 pages of funny people.
- Staple the pages together into a book.
- Go through the pages together, and encourage your child to tell a story about each funny person or weave all of the funny people into one story.
Let's Talk: Ideas to Explore Together.
- You've made some interesting, funny people. Where do they live? What do they do all day?
- Which one is your favorite? Why?
Useful information:
While you are having fun together, your child is learning about the relationship of parts to whole and is developing creativity.
