Spring Art Blossoms

Spring Art Blossoms

[20 Minutes]

Observe the blossoming of spring trees in your neighborhood and help your child create this wonderful season on paper.

You'll need:

• paper • brown construction paper or paper bags • tempera paint--yellow and pink • cotton balls • glue • child safety scissors

What to do:

  1. When you are out on a walk together, look for a flowering cherry, apple, or orange tree and show your child the blossoms.
  2. Encourage her to cut or tear brown construction paper into strips for tree trunks and branches.
  3. Help your child glue these onto a sheet of light colored construction paper.
  4. Invite your child to dip the cotton balls into tempera paint to make blossoms on the trees.
  5. Return to the tree later in the summer and discuss the changes.

Let's Talk: Ideas to Explore Together.

  • What is special about spring?
  • Can you find something growing that is about the same size as you? Bigger than you? Smaller than you?

Useful information:

While you are having fun together, your child is developing observational skills and small muscle skills.
