Flowers Inside and Out
[15 Minutes]
Take a break and be a scientist with your child as you both explore the characteristics of flowers. (Make sure your child knows not to pick flowers without getting permission.)
You'll need:
flowers paper crayons or markers
What to do:
- Encourage your child to look at a flower as it is on the outside and notice all the characteristics (color, shape, texture, wetness, smell, etc).
- Invite him to draw a picture of the flower.
- Take a flower apart to what's inside.
- Encourage your child to feel the different textures of the stem, leaves, and petals.
- Suggest that he squish the flower in his hands to feel how much moisture is inside.
Let's Talk: Ideas to Explore Together.
- How did the flower look and feel before you took it apart?
- What do you like best about a flower?
