A Gift that Smells Good

A Gift that Smells Good

[20 Minutes]

Make a gift that tickles your child's senses and teaches the joys of giving.

You'll need:

• fabric • ribbon • cinnamon sticks • cloves

What to do:

  1. Invite your child to help make "good smelling" bags to be used as gifts or to be set around the house for a spicy aroma.
  2. Cut a simple cloth circle.
  3. Encourage your child to put cloves and cinnamon sticks inside the circle.
  4. Encourage him to use his senses as he observes the spices. Ask, "Do cinnamon sticks and cloves have a shape?" "How do they feel when you touch them?" "Do you like the way they smell?" Gather the fabric and tie it closed with a ribbon.

Let's Talk: Ideas to Explore Together.

  • Where could we put this bag in our house?
  • Does it smell good? What else smells good?

Useful information:

While you are having fun together, this activity helps your child follow directions and develop small muscle skills.
