Footprint Butterflies
[20 Minutes]
Butterflies can be made in many ways. One unique way is to make footprint butterflies and capture the unique print of your child's tiny feet.
You'll need:
tempera paint paper brush pipe cleaners paper towels
What to do:
- Begin by talking about butterflies and their colorful wings with your child. If possible, look at real butterflies together or at pictures.
- Tickle your child's feet with a dry paintbrush; then paint one foot at a time and print onto paper so the prints are side by side. (If your child is reluctant, try having her paint your feet first. Then you'll have a big butterfly and a small butterfly.)
- Allow to dry.
- Invite your child to add dots of paint and pipe cleaner antennae to complete the butterfly.
How to use:
- This would be a great gift for Mother's or Father's Day.
- Be sure to put the date on the back of the picture.
Let's Talk: Ideas to Explore Together.
- How did the brush feel on your feet? Did it tickle?
- How did the paint feel? Cold? Wet?
- What other animals could we make with footprints?
Useful information:
While you are having fun together, this activity helps your child develop small muscle skills.
