Spring Weather Walk
[15 Minutes]
Have your been cooped up inside because of a spring shower? Get ready for some fun with your child. Wait for one half hour after a Spring shower before going outside. Be sure that there is no thunder or lightning.
You'll need:
boots
What to do:
- Invite your child to watch the rain from inside.
- Ask him if he sees the puddles on the ground. Are they getting bigger and deeper?
- Encourage him to talk about what he sees.
- When the rain is over, and there has been no thunder or lightning for thirty minutes, ask your child if he would like to go outside and see the spring weather.
- Once outside, splash in the puddles, jump over little ones, sail a leaf in one and wait for the sun to come out. You may even be lucky enough to see a rainbow!
- Ask your child if it feels, cool, hot, warm or cold. How does it smell? Ask these questions each day as the weather changes.
Let's Talk: Ideas to Explore Together.
- What made all the puddles outside?
- Did you have fun jumping in them?
- Did you like sailing the leaf on the puddle? What do you think made the leaf move?
Useful information:
While you are having fun together, this activity helps your child develop observational skills and language skills.
