Have a Parade

Have a Parade

[20 Minutes]

Need a change of pace? Why not join your child in a parade? The musical instruments are in the kitchen!

You'll need:

• wooden spoons • pot lids • empty coffee or oatmeal containers • set of measuring spoons • music (optional) • dress-up hats

What to do:

  1. Show your child the items listed. Invite him to make noise with them.
  2. Suggest you have a parade! Let him choose an instrument for you and one for him.
  3. Sing a song such as "Yankee Doodle" or play music for marching as you both parade around playing your instruments.
  4. Change instruments and parade again...and again!
  5. Dress up the parade by wearing hats.
  6. Take your parade outside!

Let's Talk: Ideas to Explore Together.

  • What did we do together? What did we use for our musical instruments?
  • Which instruments do you like the best? Why?

Useful information:

While having fun together, this activity helps your child develop eye/hand coordination, large muscle skills, and balance.
